Hamsters in the wild

Hamsters originate from all over the world and have adapted themselves for their life styles and how they live. Different species of hamster comes from different regions and but there is one common factor, they all live in dry rocky areas.

The four main types of hamster species are listed below with their full hamster name and the location in the world of where they come from;

Syrian Hamsters - These come from dry desert areas in the middle east
Russian White dwarf hamsters - These come from grassy lands in central Asia and parts of Siberia.
Chinese hamster - As you can guess from the name these are found in China and Mongolia.
Roborovski Hamster - These speedy hamsters are from Mongolia and live in flat sandy areas.

As mentioned earlier hamster have adapted themselves for the way that they live. Hamsters are nocturnal this means that they are awake during the night but during the daytime they sleep. This helps a wild hamster a lot as it can go out in the night when there are no predators and forage for food. Another adaptation is that hamsters have big cheek pouches which allow them to transport a large amount of food or nesting material at a time this lowers the risk of being hunter down by predators in the wild.
